I saw a purple light floating around in the sky, could that have been an alien space ship?

Last year, during the night I went in my back yard to bring my cat inside, and noticed a purple light floating up high behind the clouds! Was I just tired and imagining things?

Possibly, or it could have been a lot of other things.  But it's very unlikely that you were the only person to see an alien space ship that somehow got past all of our satellites and detectors and telescopes.  There's nothing up in the sky to use to judge distances, so it might have been small and close or big and far away.  Plane, helicopter, toy plane, meteor, iridium flash, bird, it's not really possible to say based on this info.

Depending where you live, it could've been an aurora. They do look like purple light floating around... (or red, green, etc)

And they can appear just as a whisp, stay for minutes, or just flicker...

You probably did. There are not many planes around with purple lights.
