  1. WOW!  me too!  i figured out what kind ( sorta knew any way ) from going to a Herpeologist page.  i put "info on snakes in CA" in search bar and got a ton of responses.  and one way to tell if a snake is poisonous is - the shape of the head - if it is triangular, it is poisonous for sure.  sounds like a King snake or Garter, or even Gopher snake.  the snake i saw was on the floater in our pool - little baby King snake it was, not more than 12 inches long - haha - cute little guy.  i took him down to the creek a few yards from our house.  good luck & always be careful when it comes to snakes. :)

  2. id say a garter snake. there saliva is poisenus to small animals but not to humans, although it can cause a swelling or a burning rash, nothing to be worried about

  3. does it look like this? http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-med...

  4. It could have been a hog nose snake, which is not poisonous:

    Or a coral snake: http://www.floridasnakes.net/coralsnakes...

    Which is very poisonous.

  5. mmmmm garter snake garter snakes are common

  6. Probably garter snake.

And while it is true that most venomous snakes have triangular heads, it's not the best way to judge (boas and some other snakes have triangular heads and aren't venomous, while some venomous snakes don't even have triangular heads)

    i hate snakes.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. black and yellow sounds like a gardener snake

  9. ok sounds like possible a kingsnake, but would need a little more detail to know for sure.did it have stripes blotches, etc. Could be a ratsnake or Moccasin. Cotton Mouth water moccasins tend to be rather heavy bodied snakes for their size. For the above answers coral snakes and garter snakes tend to be relatively slender snakes and corals tend to be tri-colored not bi-colored.
