If rape is committed on a cruise ship you have basically no grounds to have justice be committed? Often apparently the cruise ship crew stalk and sexually harass and often rape the women and when they are raped the cruise ship passes the buck on the up and coming country to port in. They more often then not destroy evidence such as clothing sheets etc and the women have nothing to go on. Please be careful of cruises.

  1. You are a sad person.

I saw the show that you are talking about and it was a very isolated incident.  The way you are talking is that it happens every day on every ship.  That's ridiculous!  Bad things happen to good people all the time. but if you amplify those tragedies you'll never step out of your house.

I promise you that if it were an epidemic like you want everyone to believe it would be all over the news.

You are indeed a sad person  If you only look for the negative in life, you'll find it all over.

    Why look?

  2. ya and if you go to the wrong part of town something might happen..you can't be afraid of you shadow or you will never have any adventure in your life ..run free but always be careful

  3. Yeah I have seen stories about this on TV.  But I just booked a cruise this weekend.  I'm a little nervous but my husband is going to be with me and I will make sure we don't leave each others side.

I also heard that people that get drunk are more likely to be the ones that have these things happen to them.  So I'm not planning on getting smashed by any means.  I'm already afraid of falling over board---lol.

Hopefully our cruise will go good and none of these things will happen to us but the more stories I read, watch, and hear about make me more nervous:)

  4. I just got off a Holland America cruise ship, and I had zero problems with anybody on the ship.  I had a cabin mate, but I was on my own for all activities.  Granted, I did meet some people on board to hang with, but I walked back to my cabin alone every night at midnight or later.  No one followed me, harassed me, tried anything.

I also took a taxi, a ferry and another taxi to get from St. Thomas to St. John by myself.  of course, the taxis are open air vans, and i don't think they ever bother with taking a single passenger and wait for more people - so that was not an issue.

I was in Sao Paulo for work a few months ago - went shopping at a mall with another female colleague.  We had no problems even though the crime almost rivals Rio.  Fast forward to the fall, and a colleague was in Rio for an FDA investigation and the FDA inspector was mugged at knifepoint and she was with her boyfriend.  Should you avoid Rio at all costs?  No.  Just be smart and don't put yourself in dangerous situations, like walking around at night when you could easily take a taxi.

There are stories of women traveling in places like Jamaica or Bali or whatever.  Places where you're staying in a hut on the beach - one hut per family.  Sounds romantice, but they're not very secure and some women have been attacked and raped by local men while they were sleeping.  Do you avoid these places at all costs?  No, you be smart and think about your surroundings and accomodations.

I'll take my chances trusting the crew of a respected cruise line who risk losing their jobs, over local people who are unemployed, desperate and don't give a d**n about the repercussions.

  5. You make it sound like an everyday experience and it is not.  Yes crime does happen, but I feel a lot safer on a cruise ship than I do at home.
