I saw a weird flying insect what was it?

it was about 3 times bigger that a wasp (hornet) and had a sting about two inches long what was it

oh i know what your talking about. its just a different speices of wasp.  i had one in my yard last week.

It was most likely a wasp in the family Ichneumonidae.  They use that "stinger" to lay eggs in the larvae of bark beetles.  They actually can jackhammer it through the bark and into the larva below.  This has caused them to be nicknames "stump f***ers" by some entomologists.

it might be a bumblebee or if it wasnt anything like what i said look up on youtube or wikipedia for something near the characteristics of your animal
