I saw the hugest spider today (I was so scared)?

Question

Normally I am ok with the tiny little spiders but this thing was huge.

I was making mac n cheese in the kitchen (of course) and I opened the drawer to get to a measuring cup and there was a humongous spider in the drawer. It was about two inches by two inches (counting it's legs). It was all black and I didn't get close enough to see any markings. Of course my mom killed it (because I didn't want to get close enough).

I am wondering what this is. My house has been sprayed more than once. Can anyone help me?

I feel for you. Once, we were in the tropics, and with an open kitchen, everything is around.  There was this huge flat spider, total length about 5 inches, and 4 inches wide.  It had a flat pentagon shaped body.  I freaked out, but just swept it out of the kitchen.  After all, they generally eat all the things we hate, .like mosquitoes and flies

BTW, my husband has to deal with all spider incidents, unless I have no choice as he is not home.
