I hear Kaplan pays poorly. I'm a professional tutor already at a cram school, and I got paid $22/hr. I would like something $30-35. Anybody I know? I hear a lot require a 170, or a 171. But seriously... it's still the same testing range.

  1. It's probably a lot to ask, but why not retake the test? You are pretty close to the range that the elite companies require, and one or two more points should be achievable. I work for PowerScore and I make plenty more than what you are looking for hourly, especially when tutoring. You need a 172 to work here, though.

The problem with the "169 is close enough" argument, I think, is that you can keep making that argument for every lower point. 168 is the same range as 169, and isn't 167 close to 168? Etc. At a certain point I think the companies just draw the line and say "this is the score we want our instructors to have."

If you do retake the exam and crack the 170s, you'd be set with a luxe part-time job throughout law school so it might be worth it.

    Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
