I've been working at a farm since April 5th, and this job is amazing. I work from 10am until 4pm, with an elderly man. He pays me $35-40 a day, provides great lunches, and often we spend 2-3 hours at lunch. He's so great, and I love my job because he and his wife are so nice to me. My dog had gastrointestinal irritation today, and I got sidetracked.. and forgot that I had to work. His wife e-mailed me and asked me if I had forgotten, and I made a babbling fool of myself, but here it is:

OH MY GOSH ! I am so sorry. Oh my gosh.. wow. I know this isn't an excuse, but Chica, my Chihuahua, had severe gastrointestinal irritation today and I guess I got a little sidetracked.. oh my gosh.. Oui. Please tell Carl that I am so, so deeply sorry and that I will work a day without pay to make up for it. UGH ! I can't believe that I would be so irresponsible. I am so deeply sorry. Oh my gosh..

I am at a loss for words, and I am so profoundly disappointed and embarrassed ! Advice ?

  1. You're 14. Allow yourself to be a kid, and human. You're just learning how to manage so many responsibilities, and I bet your Dog is thankful you made him first today. Don't worry about it, if their that critical, you don't want to work for them. Don't apologise anymore, and don't work a day without pay. That's like punishing yourself. You don't deserve this much abuse over this! It's just an innocent mistake..:)

  2. all you have to do is CALMLY tell them that your sorry and work really hard or do double the things that you usually do. I'm positive that they will forgive you, trust me its all going to be fine.

  3. It was mature of you to even send an email back.

I'm sure if her husband is 81 that she's a bit elderly, too?  Don't worry about your "babbling."  Even though there were a bit too many "Oh my gosh"es, it is an email that got the point across.

Even as an outsider I can tell that you were upset about missing work.  It really shouldn't be a problem.

  4. Bless you!! You have great work ethics and you're honest. Go back to work and do your best. I would hire you with an attitude like yours. Good Luck

  5. don't worry, dear, you'll be fine! You had a legitimate reason why you couldn't make it, and you put your dog first for it's health. Just explain it to your boss, and maybe take a note from your dog's vet as well for good measure. As long as you do the best you can from here on out, you'll show it was just an honest mistake and you weren't looking for a day out of work!

  6. You got so many great answers and words of encouragement. I hope you are feeling better. I think everything will be fine. Put it behind you and go back to work.  Your boss sounds like he good guy.  You will be fine.

  7. Oh WOW.  You're going to get fired.  My condolences.

  8. If he's a farmer I'm sure he'll be sympathetic to you.

He know's you have to be responsible for the animals you own.

I'm sure you'll be talking all about your dog at lunch tomorrow at work.

All will be forgiven, just show respect -it goes a long way in life.

  9. Show up early and put this behind you. Making one mistake is excusable. Just do a fantastic job from here on out.

  10. Oh no, don't quit.  This is one of those things that happens in life.  You are a loyal worker, and I'm sure he understands if your animal was ill.  Just show up tomorrow for work as you normally do.  If you worked since April, they were probably worried about you too.

  11. Calm down, you're over reacting :)

If you have such a good time working with this guy, I'm sure he likes having you around too. I'm sure you'll be forgiven, everybody makes mistakes.

In the future just remember to call them if you can't come to work.

  12. You should have called first to let them know that you couldn't be there on time, but that's ALL you would have had to do.

Don't get so worked up about it - I'm sure they understand.

  13. holy **** dont kill urself.  im sure theyll forgive u.  u didnt blow up the world or nothing.

u said that they were really old.  theyll probably forget by tomorrow.

  14. Sweetie it happends... i'm sure they understand. yea your overreacting. but don't keep point out where you messed up slightly that alone will make it a bigger thing then what it is.. you said sorry when you see him say sorry again. and say it won't happen again...

I'm sure your allowed to s***w up i mean you are human right :)

  15. Sweetheart everyone makes mistakes and I think you more than apologized for it. It is quite understandable that you forgot please don't be hard on yourself I am sure that they more than understand!

If it makes you feel any better I did the same thing today with a friend of mine I have been chatting to online.

Today we decided to talk on the phone and I knew I would likely freeze up so I made a list of conversation starters and questions to ask and I still managed to freeze up and ramble.

So please don't be hard on yourself it was one mistake and you had every right to get sidetracked, you more than apologized and have offered to make up for lost time.

I think you are very responsible and it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job!

I hope I have helped at least a bit.

  16. Well, don't be so hard on yourself! Everyone and I mean everyone makes mistakes in life, and what happens when we make mistakes?? We learn from them! Taking care of a very sick dog is more important than working at a farm! The dog needed you and you were there for him.her. you should be proud of yourself! the next time you go to work just tell teh elderly man or his wife that you are deeply sorry and that you will make up the work somehow. They have to understand and if they don't then you should resign. Just give it a chance and see what happens, but don't be so hard on yourself! You are young and learning life right now just like everyone else, so they have to understand!! Good Luck, and just be honest with the man and his wife and everything will turn out fine!!
