I scuffed up my hand (road rash) on concrete pavement..will it scar?

  1. No, unless it does'nt heal properly. You usually get a scar from a deeper wound.

  3. Depends on the severity of the rash wound.  Wear padded gloves when riding, they protect your hands during an accident and they absorb road shock during a ride.

To avoid scarring, it is best to keep the wound moist.  This is best done by keeping an antibacterial ointment like Polysporin on the wound and keeping it loosely covered with gauze.  (Use the type of gauze that scabs will not adhere to in case the wound dries out.)  Keep the wound moist will prevent getting hard, dry scabs that crack when you move or flex your hand.  When it is healed up, you will need to keep sunscreen on the new skin so it won't burn.

    As others have pointed out, cycling gloves are always a good idea.  The best way to avoid scars is to let the gloves get scuffed up rather than your hands.
