Question:

I see diapers for elementary schoolchildren in Japan. Isn't that ridiculous?

For the brands "Goon" (グーン) and "Moonyman" (ムーニーマン), I saw packages that said "SUPER BIG" (スーパービッグ) and "18-35 kg" on them. I got out a calculator and multiplied them by 2.2 to convert them to pounds.

The weight range for these diapers were 39.6 - 77 lbs! I think I weighed 77 pounds in 4th grade!

More than that, both the boys' and girls' Moonyman packages each show three children aged about 6-9 years old!

What's the matter here? Why do Japanese families not seem to mind putting off potty training?

Also, many kids in America still abhor going back into diapers once they're in elementary school. Why don't Japanese kids mind so much?

(I wish I could upload pictures of the packages of these oversized diapers but there's no way. You can search for them if you know how.)

Don't you think something's wrong here? That keeping kids in diapers after starting kindergarten is ridiculous? I wonder how badly kids get picked on in Japanese schools if a classmate spots a diaper on them at recess.

  1. i didn't know about this; however i do know that Japanese children are some of the most well-educated in the world.

beats me why they don't use a toilet.

  2. post a link to the website, I can't find them...

I know that the kids in japan are some of the smartest in the world. and I'm sure that most do indeed potty train normally.

they look to me like they are bedwetting pants. we have them here. they are called goodnites.

I think that there is nothing wrong with it at all, some children need them and some don't.

  3. There are many many children and adults who have special needs here that wear them here.  We are discreet about that here but maybe there it is not shameful to have a special need that would require wearing diapers.  I have seen many many students here in the United States that need diapers in the elementary, middle and high schools. Also, that in that age range you speak of it is still common to have nighttime accidents.  If you look in our stores here you will find some labeled "Overnighters" that are also for that same weight.  If you haven't had to have first hand knowledge of this, consider you and your family blessed.

  4. Why do you need to know? It's none of your business.

  5. there are diapers here that go up to 100 pounds for children who are bedwetters and special needs kids who are so severe that they wear them in their teens.

I dont know where you got your information but i dont think that you seen these kids wearing them in school you probally saw a model just for advertising puposes.

the children in japan are very independent and structured. they go to school 6 days a week and take turns with janitorial services so the schools dont have a lot of people employed doing cleaning around the school.

we could do to pick up some of these traits.

  6. Since you're obviously not the one who is changing their diapers what are you btching about?

  7. IDK JAPANESE KIDS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR BRAINS BY COMING TO AMERICA AND OPENING UP LITTLE SHOPS ON BY LOCAL STORES
