  1. I have seen floaters since I was very young, well as far as I can remember but Ill give a guess at about 7-8 years old. Only a couple of years ago I asked my optometrist about what they were and he told me that they were very common, something about the fluids in the eyes, sorry Im actually not really sure on the technical part but he told me that they were fine and posed no danger. But I wouldnt mind them disappearing it does get annoying when you try to chase them with your eyes!

  2. You should probably consult an ophthalmologist (eye doctor).

Floaters occur when the vitreous, a gel-like substance that fills about 80 percent of the eye and helps it maintain a round shape, slowly shrinks. As the vitreous shrinks, it becomes somewhat stringy, and the strands can cast tiny shadows on the retina. These are floaters.

Floaters are more likely to develop as we age and are more common in people who are very nearsighted, have diabetes, or who have had a cataract operation. There are other, more serious causes of floaters, including infection, inflammation (uveitis), hemorrhaging, retinal tears, and injury to the eye.

As for treatment, sometimes they drain the fluid from the eye and replace it with a saline solution. This has to be done by a surgeon though because they also remove the floaters during the process.
