I have tried several anti-virus and adware programs to get rid of this... But a site www.scanner.antivir-64.com (and several variations) keeps popping up. Is there a way I can eradicate this completely from my computer?

  1. Install spybot search and destroy

Update it and do a scan.

Remove spyware/adware and immunise your system against future infection.

Spybot search and destroy is the best free anti-spyware tool.

    http://www.safer-networking.org/

Spybot search and destroy immunize your computer against spyware.

It modifies Internet Explorer to block a lot of the bad stuff known to Spybot.

There is a second layer of protection for IE that blocks anything that should come through by different aspects.

  2. If you have not used rogue anti-virus programs (which you can screen out using CNET's http://www.download.com ), my Yahoo Security Center link basically answers your question. It warns you may not be able to find all the pieces of malware to manually remove, and in extreme cases if your anti-malware can't clean your computer, you have to reformat your hard drive and reinstall your o.s., which is why prevention is key.

That would mean you lose anything not backed up, so I would take it to a pro 1st.  Wish I had better news.

I couldn't find the website www.scanner.antivir-64.com on http://www.stopbadware.org or http://www.siteadvisor.com , but it seems Michael is right because his bleepingcomputer.com has good reviews from Siteadvisor & About.com, so rogue anti-malware programs always tell you your machine is infected even if it is clean, and clicking anywhere on suspicious pop-ups, even on the "x," may download malware.

This is why I refuse to interact with suspicious pop-ups by pressing Ctrl+w (hasn't always worked) or Alt+F4 (has worked always for me) to close the window. Another option is to go right-click task bar or Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager > Applications to close it.

As for using free/trial anti-malware programs, HP Support told me to try:

    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    http://onlinescan.avast.com/

(These companies are both in my BBC link also)

So I tried the Kaspersky online scanner even though I already own Norton Internet Security 2008. It took 5 hours to do the complete scan, and I was able to save a scan report, but if you have a virus, you have to delete it manually. www.download.com's advice on the free online Kaspersky scanner says:

"The free Kaspersky Online Scanner does not scan boot sectors and MBRs, so it cannot detect malicious code located in these areas. The free Kaspersky Online Scanner does not protect against malicious code, and cannot prevent future infections. It only detects malware that has already penetrated your computer. We strongly recommend that you install a full antivirus solution to protect your system."

For real time protection, I'm glad I bought Norton when it blocked the Trojan.zlob virus from downloading from a Google Group I went to (I got Google to delete that group). The group looked a bit odd. It had what looked like an embedded s**y Youtube video, but it was just a picture, and when I clicked on it, Norton told me it had just blocked the Trojan.zlob virus. I also got a pop-up saying I had to agree to download a program to watch the video. It was more malware to be sure because I already have the program to watch a Youtube video. Trickyyyyy.

Kaspersky was great for a 2nd opinion in addition to my paid for Norton Security. Based on my experience, I hope you buy a full-version anti-virus program.

  3. Here is info on Antivir64 ..... its a rogue anti-spyware program . It  is advertised through misleading web sites and advertisements on the Internet that state your computer is infected with malware. All they are after is your money.

Scroll to this for Free removal...avoiding any ads above this.

Automated Removal Instructions for Antivir64 using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

Update before scanning with this trusted program which

is used many times here on answers and also turn of all other applications.

What you need to get rid of is the Trojan that is

associated with antivir-64...this is causing the

    pop-ups.

  5. Hi

You could boot into Safe Mode - press F8 when your computer starts up - and follow this guide:

  6. Describe the virus.

Do you see any "You have a virus" messages poping up at the bottom of your screen?

  7. I use AVG anti-virus protection and it seems to really help when any kind of virus try's to sneak into my computer. Spywareblaster also helps and spybot search and destroy, the good thing is they are all free programs. Good luck!!!
