  1. The best remedy for rabbits is a tall fence with small holes, nothing larger than one inch.  Chicken wire at least two feet tall comes to mind.  Rabbits can dig at least four inches down.

Rabbits nibble most lush new growth.  Repellents you buy in the store contain material you can use from your kitchen at much cheaper rates:  ground red cayenne pepper, rotten egg, blood meal.

Sprinkle cayenne pepper around your plants. This causes eye irritation though.  And it does wear off and needs to be reapplied every few days and after rains.

Same for blood or bone meal.  Both are from animals and rabbits don't like to smell other animals.  Bone and blood meal also make great fertilizer for your plants.  A bag goes for around $4 each.  I use both with success.  (I also have dogs and cats!)

Dog turds around plants also repels rabbits but it can also repel neighbors, especially after a rain!

Urine also helps, but for the same reason as turds above, use smartly...

A hungry rabbit will eventually overcome all obstacles so there is no one fool-proof rabbit repellent.

  2. plant land mines around your ferns, or get some rat poison and water, use those in a blender and sprinkle that on your ferns

  3. A .22 caliber and a stew pot ;^)

  4. Try building an electric fence around the ferns that should keep them out! And if that doesn't work, try just killing the blame things!!!

    I LOVE YOU!!!! =D
