  1. your six years will be deducted from your age to give you a baseline.  as long as you still meet the age cutoff( 42) and can pass the physical and don't need any waivers you should be fine.

depending on how long you have been out, you may have to repeat BCT.

  2. Check with a recruiter. A phone call will do. I think the age limit is waived for as many years are you were in the service, so if the age limit is 39, you get credit for 6 years which pushes the limit to 45. Of course, you will have to pass all of the physical tests and such. If your discharge was honorable as you say, they will take you back in a heartbeat, provided you meet the requirements as any other person still in the service on active duty, and of course, have not turned into a criminal in the meantime. I was in the Navy for 20 years, and if someone did this in the Navy and was E5 when they left, the time in grade resets before becoming eligible for advancement to the next paygrade. The rules may have changed since I left the Navy, which is why you check with a recruiter for accurate information. All time in service, active and reserve, WILL count toward retirement day for day even with a break in service. You may even be eligible for a re-enlistment bonus if you are in a critical rate just as you would be if you never left. I saw people in the Navy in nuclear power (like I was) who had a break in service and because the specialty was so short on people, DID get a bonus for coming back, but that was 15 years ago and the rules may have changed since then. I think any recruiter will jump at the chance to sign you up again.

  3. These days I believe they'll take anyone up to age 39, depending upon physical eval.

You might look into going back as an officer, too. Your prior service will count towards retirement also.

  4. hello.........you were in for 6years....didnt you learn anything?

  5. Were you awake any time during those 6 years?  If you're out for more than 2 years, you have to redo AIT.  If you're out for 4 or more, you have to redo Basic.  Not sure about the age issue.  Might be waiverable since you've already put in 6.

  6. hmm.. lets see as long as you can still preform the pt parts and have not done hard time {felonies} and be under 41 years old you are a go. But to be safe you should go have a chat with a professional lair you know the ones with the class b's on.

  7. They will take you back. Many of us do that if life (In Civilian world)  doesn't work out.

  8. Questions need to be answered...

    1)  How long were you out

    2)  What was your last rank

    3)  How long did you hold that rank

    4)  What is the RE code on your DD214

If you've been out for more than 2 years, you'll have to attend Warrior Transition Course.  It's about 4 weeks long and is given in Ft Bliss.

Also, depending on how long you held your rank, you stand a good chance of losing more rank the longer you wait.  If you were a SGT and it's been 4 years, you're more than likely coming back in as a SPC or even PFC because you waited so long.

You can be given an honorable discharge but have a RE code that restricts you from re-enlisting.

Go and talk with a recruiter.
