  1. The first two answer seem to be a little inacurate.  Depending on the model of your router, the private network IP address will be different.  An easy way to find this is to go to your wireless connection settings (on the task bar) and go to support.  This will show you the wireless router's "default gateway" type this number into your browser (Internet explorer/mozilla what ever you use)  Then go to the wireless security tab, this will usually tell you the difference between a WEP and a WPA.  WEP in more secure, but WPA allows you to choose the password that you want.

Also, you should always make changes to your router while you are "Hard lined' in, which mean use the ethernet cable.  Make the changes and save them, then apply the settings to the wireless computer.

The most popular default gateways are:

    192.168.0.1

    192.168.1.1

    192.168.2.1

    192.168.100.1

  2. read the info from the router

most you type in 192.168.1.1 and set it up

  3. Helpful if you list the make and model.

If you don't have the manual, go to the manufacturer's web site and look up your model in the support area under manuals.  You can usually download it and read it in PDF format.

  4. go and read the manual that came with your wireless router. You need to go the the homepage of the router and set it up in there
