Question:

I shoot about 105 for 18 and am using 15 year old clubs. I want new ones, but should I go clone or OEM??

The cost of the clones is attractive, and since I am average, I wonder if I would see more value from the OEM set or the clones. I am also concerned about overall quality.

  1. I don't think getting fitted out will help you at this stage.

Certainly better clubs will but I would suggest you get some good second hand ones which you can get at Callaway pre-owned (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-2772606-103...

They may even give you a trade in on your old set.

And then get a good tutorial and spend some time practising and playing.  Practice the short game which is the least glamorous but if you could 2 putt every green I am sure you will cut strokes off your round.

Once you start shooting in the 80s regularly then you cn consider getting fitted out.

  2. Clubs would help. Clones can be good or bad depending on who's making them. What looks like a good copy may not be so good in real life. If you shop around you can find name brand clubs for not much more than the clones. Often last years model will be about 50% off and name brand manufacturers will back their clubs better than clone manufacturers.

Going to a club fitter before you buy anything. He can tell you what weight clubs, lie, and flex suits your swing best. OBTW If the fitter only measures you and doesn't as least watch you hit balls go somewhere else.

A good club fitter can take more strokes off your game with a set of clones than a current make set of name brand clubs that don't fit will ever do.

And don't forget to practice. That will take even more strokes off your game. If Tiger has to do it--You have to do it.
