  2. The difference between the two in terms of using them is vast as they are for two different purposes. The 12g would have slightly more recoil but the .270 is louder. But when your out in the field shooting animals the recoil and noise are the last thing on your mind so dont worry about it.

  3. I find rifles( .223- 7mm rem mag) to be much more tolerable in the recoil department than a 12 ga, even with light field loads, maybe its just me.  As far as being loud, the rifle will usually be much louder than a shotgun, especially if it has a muzzle brake or is ported, if your'e used to shooting 12 ga. then the .270 wont give you any problems at all.

  4. There isnt much difference in recoil and noise between a 270 rifle and a 12ga shotgun with light 2 3/4" shells (1oz. of shot at 1200 fps). However, there is a huge difference in how to shoot these firearms.  One big difference is in the stock. Shotgun stocks have to be fitted.  when you point the muzzle of a shotgun at a target, the rear sight of the shotgun must align itself automatically with the eye, when the stock is brought to the face and shoulder, without looking down at the rear sight. Another big difference is in mounting the guns. A shotgun has to be mounted in a way so it will continue to swing smoothly along the flight of a target. The rifle is mounted with consideration to steadiness. Both firearms require a lot of patience and practice to become good. In the case of the shotgun it is not uncommon to practice 3-5 times a week, shooting 200 shells a day for 3 years or more before becoming a Master.

  5. Yes.  A shotgun throws a pattern of small projectiles.  You point a shotgun and try and lead a moving target so that your ball of shot intercepts the target.  A rifle launches a gyroscopicly stablized single projectile with great precision.  You don't point a rifle, you aim it with great care.

As far as recoil and report; with a standard field load, the 12ga will have more recoil than the .270 but not by much.  I'm not sure about actual decible levels but the report of the .270 is much sharper than the shotgun.

  6. Yes there is a big difference.* Very few people can shoot a rifle, shotgun, pistol or revolver expertly.* They will either be good at one or two.*
