I have resigned from the position but no one at the school will contact me about the status of my contract. We are moving out of state and I'm wondering if I can sign a contract at another school if I'm not released from my current contract?

  1. Yes, you will be able to sign a new contract.  As long as you have submitted a resignation letter, you are fine.  When I left my previous district, I just submitted a resignation letter, and was fine when I signed my new contract.  Congrats on the new job

  2. Whoa, wait a minute folks.  If this teacher is in California, the teacher is obligated to complete the contract unless released by the school board.  The principal can recommend the teacher be released, but the ultimate decision is made by the superintendent and the school board.  To jump ship without official release means losing credential in California.

  3. Contract obligations were put in place to stop teachers from signing something while still looking for a job.  There is no district that I've ever heard that's actually held someone to their contract if they have a legitimate reason for leaving.

In some contracts, the distrist will ask for a fee (usually around $400.00) to help in finding a replacement for you...if you resign after your deadline.

    Read your contract more closely.

  4. The worst they can do is to blacklist you and take away the teaching certificate of the state that you left.

  5. If you don't fulfill your contract, if you've applied for any scholarship/fee waiver/assistance etc.. while you're getting you credential, they will come back for it.

but you can try talk with them and see if you can continue the fulfillment of your contract with employment in different school..  good luck.

  6. Sure.... this is the land of the free last I heard, and that includes moving around the country..... hopefully you sent your resignation certified, for a signature of receipt ???
