While it's true that the queen gets several million quid from the Civil List, she doesn't actually get to keep the money. It all goes to the upkeep of the state-owned palaces and castles, which she doesn't own herself by the way, and wages for all the staff at the various estates.

So the government gets most of it back anyway, one way or another.

Considering the amount of tourism and general kudos the UK receives as a direct result of having a Monarchy, the Queen makes us a tidy profit.

Those who oppose the Royal family would have you think so, as they are paid with tax money, and welfare is tax money.  But then, welfare recipients do nothing to earn their payments, whereas, the Royal Family have jobs.  It just doesn't look like it to people who can't see past their noses.

They receive monies from the privy purse to run the "STATE OWNED" estates.
