I sold something on ebay and the buyer said they didn't get it?

Question

So I sold an item on ebay and the tracking # said that the item was delivered but the buyer said they didn't get it. What should I do? What obligation do I have to the buyer? I never stated a refund policy in my auction.

Well, if they file a paypal claim, you just have to provide proof of delivery and they lose.

If they insist that the parcel has been lost, tell them you'll file a "rifling report" ( Form 1509 I think) with the Post Office and they'll send a postal inspector around to investigate.

Amazingly, "lost" parcels get "found" quite often when the inspectors show up.  (They could be lying)

If the Postal Inspector thinks that there is a valid claim, you can file for insurance and get their money back for them.

The form you want is PS Form 1510 - Mail Loss or Rifling Report.  

If the PO tracking report shows delivery, send them a copy of that.  Then it's up to them to prove the post office record is wrong.

leen our situation is almost the same, mine was i bought 2 books in differnt bookstores but unfortunately the other bookstore they did not received my money order but the other one they received it. I don't know how come, this is my third time to buy books in ebay.

One thing i will gonna do is contact ebay what's going on.  This is my second time that i experience this kind of problem.. either they recieved the money and just make it fun or they don't really received it. But it's second time.

I don't know if i really trust sellers again.

Yes, mzleen you have to go to the courier what went wrong.. cuz now a days you cannot really trust couriers, either ups, fedex or ups or even post office cuz we encountered that but one thing you need is you have to sign up insurance so that they can pay you back.

From the moment we lost something from couriers, that's the time we sign up insurance...

You know what there was one time i and my hubby we sent a box to our friends over in missouri, and we sealed it and they aware what's inside the box. after they received it they called us and said there's something missing and the box was not in good shape... it's totally annoying!  

I cannot tell what courier was.

Go back to the company that you shipped it to and tell them.  If UPS or Fedex, they sometimes leave the package on a doorstep and it can be missed or behind a bush or with a neighbor.  Their packages automatically come with $100 of insurance so if your order was not over that, you're okay.  Put a claim into the company and let them know that the package was stolen.  The same goes for the post office but they are much harder to deal with.
