Question:

I sometimes have blurry vision, is my glasses working right?

I just got my new pair of glasses from Walmart. They are rimless and the lens should be polycarbonate (looks thicker than polycarbonate should look). I have been wearing contacts for about a month now and the new glasses feel a little different than the contacts. I was told that I have astigmatism, is that why I have trouble seeing medium close with these new glasses? See, I can read anything near to me, and the glasses work fine for things that are far from me, but in between those two, I get a completely different focus from my lens. Both my eyes have different readings. Was it a mix-up by my eye doctor?

  1. What strength of prescription are we talking about here?

Glasses will feel differently than contacts.  The two prescriptions are different. The contacts prescription is based on the CL being directly on your eye, and the glasses is based on the lenses being set away from your eye at a specific distance.  Sounds like you have had poly lenses before. A quick way to check if they are poly is to place them on a white piece of paper.  Is there a slightly grey tint to them?  If so, probably poly. Also, you can GENTLY tap them against a ring on your finger. Poly will sound almost like glass.  Plastic will sound just like that, plastic.

You state you have an astigmatism.  Is that astigmatism being corrected in your contacts?  If the astigmatism is small, many doctors will simply leave it off for contacts.  If you dont have Toric contacts, but have the astigmatism corrected in your glasses, you may notice the difference when using them. It sounds like you could perhaps benefit from Progressive Lenses.  They would correct your distance, your reading area and that area the computer falls at, the intermediate distance between the two.

The best thing to do would be to wake up first thing in the morning, put on your glasses and keep them on for the whole day.  Dont go back and forth between your cl's and glasses for a few days. Let your eyes get used to the glasses.  If you simply can not get used to them, perhaps go in and see the optometrist again and explain what is going on.  I would ask Walmart to re-check your glasses first, make sure the rx ordered is what you actually got.  Sometimes a simple lab mistake can drastically change the rx.

    Best of luck.

  2. Do you have the same problem if you are wearing your contacts?

If not then there is probably a problem with the glasses prescription. Either it was written wrong, or it was cut wrong. Astigmatism causes a blurriness which is normally correctable. I would go back to WalMart and let them know about the problem. They should be able to work with you to correct it. If you went to the doctor at WalMart then that's a big help. If not, and Walmart says the lenses match the prescription then take your glasses back to your eye doctor so he can see why your vision is not corrected.

  3. i guess its just the glasses but first talk to your doctor
