I know my destination. I've researched airlines. My major concern is traveling to a foreign country alone and not able to speak the language. how do i get from point A to point B hassle free. If this helps, the person I am visiting doesn't speak english, so there is a communication barrier involved. Is there assistance available,or a web site for situations like this?

  1. I did the same thing i only knew a little bit i went with a English to Spanish dictionary. I went for 3 weeks and it wasn't too difficult i had a lot of fun and when i came back i knew way more Spanish then i ever thought I'd learn.

  2. I only have one bit of advice:

Always make SURE before you get in a cab, what they charge.  Not saying that they are dishonest, just that if you don't have a price to begin with, they can make anything up later.

Edit:  Make that 2 bits:  There are a LOT of people all over mexico with their hands literally...OUT...asking for $$.

You need to just shake your head subtly and ignore them.

Everytime I was in a taxi, people would kind of slowly walk up to our window, then lazily and limp-wristed, would flip their palms up and PLOP their open hand on the window ledge.

No words.  (Just non-verbally asking for a handout).

I learned from the taxi-driver.  Just shake your head slightly and look away.  Do not reason with them, or give them ANY money.  And..do NOT feel bad about saying no.

Learned the hard way in Ciudad Juarez.

  3. what part of mexico you go???? maybe i can help you!!!

  4. ok i speak spanish and i'm tellin u its gonna be hard being there....hire someone that will help you(they're gonna cost but its worth it)

  5. Two words. Be careful, some people will try to take advantage of you, speacially in big cities. Always take private taxis, dont give money and try to know where you are going beforehand with people at your hotel. Don´t give money dont show your belongings.

  6. I"ve been to 18 of the 31 Mexican states with very little Spanish--I can order a meal, get a room and ask directions  plus I had a Franklin translator that I bought at Office Depot.  I could type in an English word and it would give back the Spanish.

  7. bueno pues si sabes hablar  español ve i listo si no sabes mejor ve con alguien por q sino te vas aperder con todos los latinos

    jeje

  8. I went to france and my french isn't that good. I took a french to english dictionary and people were actually quite nice about helping me learn word. I stayed with a host family and they spoke no english. we just used a lot of hand signals and my dictionary. I learned a lot by the time i left. Oh, to get from one place to another the airport was very helpful for me. They helped me plan my way to the hotel and the train station.

Oh and buy maps they are life savers.
