  1. Our three year old speaks three languages pretty well. We speak English at home and he goes to a preschool in Yiddish and Hebrew. We live in Jerusalem so he is very exposed to these languages. He also understands Spanish because my mother is native Spanish speaker and she lives near us. I think if you give your child the opportunity to learn a language. He will just go ahead and learn it. I could not believe this until i saw it happening. I do know that kids like to have clarity on who speaks what and where. For example, even though i speak some yiddish, our son does not like to speak yiddish with me. When I try to do it he tells me "mommy this is from my school, you speak English". However, when his yiddish speaking baby sitter walks in our home he talks to her without a problem and only in yiddish. best wishes
