I start my new job on Monday, what to expect?

Well, pretty much I was offered a job at a NAPA Auto Parts store and I start this monday. They really didn't exactly tell me the job title but I know it deals with auto parts (obviously), and they did mention on occasion driving around parts to various locations. As of right now, I'm very nervous because I don't know if they'll give me a job that will be too difficult. For this type of job, what can I expect on my first day? And more importantly, how can I stop myself from going in there super nervous? It's been a while since my last job due to personal reasons and I really need and want this job.

  1. I don't know what you would consider too difficult, but an entry level job at an aftermarket parts house such as NAPA usually will entail making deliveries, putting stock away, and maybe filling orders.  Without any automotive experience, it is VERY doubtful that they would expect you to work the counter or the paint mixing area.  They may have you do some light cleaning as well.  Be advised, you are working in a male dominated environment and may have to endure some offhanded comments from some of them, (both coworkers and customers) but show some spunk and give it right back to them, especially after you've made some effort to learn the business.  BTW - I am a female who spent over 15 years in the automotive business.  I worked as a counterman for two NAPAs and an independent, as a paint expert (attended Dupont school in Flint, MI and Martin Senour school near Bala Cynwyd, PA), worked for two dealerships as a counterman, and also worked as a mechanic.  Gain as much knowledge as possible.  Believe it or not, myself and another female counterman at the NAPA we worked at were respected to the point where the mechanics and farmers preferred to deal with us than most of the guys.  Don't be nervous and good luck with your new job.
