I started a group but others cannot find it in searches?

If it is not an adult group it may take a few days to be listed in the directory:

"It’ll get listed in the Yahoo! Groups directory within a few days, in the category that you select during the set-up process. Occasionally, our team of category editors comes across groups they feel have been miscategorized, and if this happens with your group, we’ll let you know."

Assuming that your group is not Adult, it will be indexed next time the search engine updates - it can take up to two weeks, so be patient.

newly created groups take time for it to list- if it's a closed group, it wont ever list or be found in a search.

you need to check to be sure it is set to list as well for un-closed groups-

from homepage "Description  (Edit, Add Photo)" click the edit

or

management- under group settings click description and appearance-

Description (Edit) <- click the edit- scroll down and be sure Listed in Yahoo! Groups directory is checked, if not, check and click save changes
