  1. p**a: What the heck? you say your a vet?avoderm is way better than purina products. I reccomend trying Wellness chicken and herring grain-free cans. My cat loves it. You can find it at petco.

  2. Cats are just like us... like some food and don't like others (do you eat broccolli?)

I would stay with the old brand... and then add only a teaspoon for a while then add 2 t.

You are probably adding it too fast.

or mix in dry food with the combination.

    good luck

  3. Three good wet foods for kittens that I found are in pouches, one is Science Diet which is tender chunks of real chicken in gravy, Nutro max cat gourmet classics chicken and tomato dinner in gravy and Nutro natural choice oceafish & tuna.  All look and smell great.

I find the pouches nicer than the tinned pate stuff which looks congealed and they are nice small packets that you can give at different times througout the day so not leaving a large tin smelling open in the fridge.  Reasonable prices too.

I wouldn't particularly stick to one brand, I rotate brands just in case I can't get one and it helps keep their palates interested.  I only give a small pouch in the morning and dry stuff the rest of the day with a dish of kitten milk for vitamins and calories as they were pretty bad shape when I rescued them.  (water the rest of the day)

Your guy won't starve himself if you perhaps just give him kitten dried for a few days and then start up the mix (of old and new) or just a  new product again when he is a little more desperate for some wet food.

    Hope this helps

  4. Is there a reason why you bought Avoderm? Is it possible to switch them to something they might like better such as Friskies, Iams or Fancy Feast?

Also flavor has a great deal to do when animals don't eat. Cats tend to go the fishy flavors.

  5. Try some other good brands.  My foster kittens are all feed either Wellness or EVO canned, and they have all liked them.  Avoderm is a great food, but not terribly popular at my house.  If he's used to eating a lower quality food (they have lots of flavor enhancers) it may take him a while to get accustomed to real food.  You can also try mixing a lesser amount of the new food in with the old.

  6. I would suggest you get something better for them like blue spa or EVO, anything you can buy in the grocery store or a department store is c**p, don't get.

  7. The following info is from my blog.  One or more suggestions may work for you.  If the Avoderm doesn't work out, try another brand suggested in item 1.  Avoderm is a better brand so you've done well so far.

    1. Buy the best. See http://www.catinfo.org/commercialcannedf... for suggestions, and also see my blog on identifying good foods http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-ytgWjlI5e... Although you don't want to feed fishy foods more than 2-3 times per week (http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac... ), you might want to get a few. The stronger smell may be more appealing, and perhaps you could use it as a topping on other foods as well.

    2. Buy as many varieties as you can. Get different brands and different flavors. Also try different textures - some prefer mushy food, others prefer ones that are chunkier.  You just never know what's going to appeal to a cat.

    3. Offer a teaspoonful or so of the new food in a separate bowl at feeding time. Do this at every meal. The idea is that kitty will finally realize it's food and will give it a shot. By offering just a small amount, you'll avoid digestive upsets should he or she be willing to give it a try.

    4. If he tries any, note which brand/flavor it was. You may then want to focus on that brand or that flavor in other brands. But don't be fooled. The cat may eat it all up but then never want to eat it again. So before buying a case of a food that he seems to like, make sure he's going to continue going for it.

    5. You can try putting a smear of food on his nose or mouth. That'll cause him to l**k it. If he likes it, he may try more.

    6. Bribes. Crush some kibble and sprinkle it over the top. Try fish or liver flakes, parmesan cheese, a drop of soy sauce, meaty baby food (with no added onion or garlic), whatever it takes.

    7. You can run the food (in a container of course) under hot or warm water or even nuke it for a few seconds to bring it to "mouse body temperature." This may also release the scent and that may draw the cat in.

    8. Don't try starving the cat into submission. That could ultimately be fatal. You may want to cut back a bit on the regular food so that hunger may encourage him to eat, but don't force the issue. As he starts eating more canned, you will decrease the amount of kibble he's getting. But just be sure that he gets enough to eat every day.

Realize that you will waste food and money. Be patient and persistent. The results will be worth it!
