My foot hurts pretty bad right now. i don't know if I should go to the hospital and get a shot. Should I? what are the signs of it getting infected?

  1. The only shot you would get is a tetanus if it's been over 5 years since your last one.

Have you tried advil for the pain? Larger puncture wounds tend to hurt for awhile.

As for infection: increased redness, swelling, increasing pain, purulent drainage, hot to the touch.

  2. You don't say how old you are now.  If it has been years since you've had the proper shots, then go get one pronto.  The signs of blood poisoning are red lines going towards your heart, or in your case up your leg.  Call any hospital hot line and they will be glad to advise you.

  3. Did you use hydrogen peroxide on it,  this too will keep out infection.  As long as nail was not rusty but I would still get it looked at.  Go to your dr on Monday and ask them when you had your tetanus shot and to what I am told that each shot lasts 10 yrs.  Good luck.

  4. ya go to the ER better safe then sorry i geuss right???? good luck!!!!

  5. what would your rather do answer and ask questions on yahoo answers while not noing if you could loose your leg or get infected or go to the hospital for the safe side i would go to hospital just in case

  6. Sorry, but a puncture wound is nothing to take lightly.  Especially from a rusty nail.  Go to the ER now, before it gets to busy from the Saturday night crazies!

  7. Soak your foot in hot water & salt to help keep the wound clean & use a poutice to help draw out any infection. Protect the area with compressive socks thermal socks which will help hold the dressing in place as well as speed up healing & reduce pain. Go to your doctor for a T. shot & try to rest the foot as much as possible. Good luck.
