Question:

I still think my Husband could work even on disability...?

My husband lost his job due to downsizing back in 1999, and not long after that had major back surgery, and has not really worked since. He does get Social Security Disability and it is not a bad amount, but still , I have been basically the breadwinner since. We both are in our 50's, but I think he could still get something on the side for a job to help with the bills etc. He is basically a stay at home husband and does not do much else, and everytime I bring it up for him to find work even under the table or part time, he gets an attitude.

Anyone else have this problem???

  1. if he were to get caught working, wouldn't he lose his disability?

  2. Ever hear of the word "fraud", that is what he would be committing by getting a job "under the table."   BTW, getting on disability with the SS is not an easy thing.  Therefore, I would assume that he is disabled and you should back off.

  3. Its not a good thing to not tel ss that hes  workin Talk to ss and find out if it is legal for him to work..it may be but he may only be able to work a certain amount of time

  4. it's my understanding the SSD laws are supposed to be changing soon to allow those collecting SSD to work and earn a certain amount of money each month.

check into this, it may have already changed.

  5. And if he injured himself at work he'd lose his job as well

  6. He could also get in a lot of trouble for defrauding the government out of the benefits he gets now.

Look, I'm sure he is capable, but do you really want to jeopardize the income he gets now?

It seems your a little jealous that he gets to stay home all the time and do what ever it is that he wants to do. But you have to get over that. Good luck

  7.   He  can  still  work  and  make  up  to  $235.00  weekly,allowed, talk  to  his  SS  worker  first  and  they  will  tell  you HOW  but  he  can  still  work  if  he  wants ,  part  time; make  sure  you  save  all  pay  stub  to  be  sure  if  questioned, seems  like  he  don't  want  to  work.

  8. What you are suggesting is illegal.  Perhaps he is able to go back to work and NOT still claim the disability payments?  He can always reapply later in life.

  9. No I don't but I do have a problem with what your suggesting, if your husband gets caught doing employed work and cheating the system if they find out which of course they always do, your husband gets charged with fraud and won't receive any benefits at all. What your asking of your husband is unfair. If he suffers pain how would he manage without a disability payment if he gets caught defrauding the system,

  10. You are an idiot, I hope if I become disabled my wife is more understanding then you.  If he does work and gets caught he loses his disability.   If he gets hurt again it is obvious you will not take care of him.  If you need more money why don't you get a part time job.

  11. Your problem is you are greedy.  He is disabled, he cannot work.  Working under the table will probably effect him physically (most under the table jobs require physical labor)....not good for someone who has had back surgery.  Never mind the ethical and legal aspects.  You should have more respect for your husband.

  12. Yea, they're called the husbands to self-titled 'stay at home moms' except in this case, those bints are intellectually disabled when they actually believe that not working is best for the family. At least your husband has some excuse, he'll lose his disability if he works (or he may lose the amount meaning, his working might not even help!) Besides, he could be masking the fact that he really is disabled for you or his own insecurities (stemming from both being let go and having major surgery) when he gets defensive (a common syndrome with the stay at home moms low self esteem = no desire to succeed in the world). Some men are idiots and think they must be 'manly' at all times regardless of their health or happiness.
