I stripped the threads on my bicycle crank. How do I get it off?

  1. I assume you mean the puller thread in the crank arm, if so, the only way is brute force.

    Hold the bike against you and lean over it, take a long cold chisel to hold against the back of the arm from below, as near to the centre as you can get and hammer away until it comes off, usually after 2/3 heavy blows, more care is needed on the chainwheel side or you might bend the rings, which doesn,t matter if you are replacing it.

    This usually works for me, if it doesn,t you have to start messing around with heat, in which case start by pouring boiling water on the arm and repeating above.


  2. Check into a  gear puller or steering wheel puller.

    Go to an automotive rental place and check into renting them if you don't wan to buy one.
