I subscribe to dish network. We use a pretty recent reciever that was purchased within the last year.?

It is a vip 612. Do I need to buy any new equipment in order to be ready for the transistion to digital television?

  1. DISH could give you more accurate information.  But as I'm understanding it, the dish and LNB is different for HD, and the HD receivers are quite recent.  All of their receivers are not automatically HD capable.  Even with the transition next year, you will still need a specifically HD-capable receiver to get HD channels.  Many subscribers will still be only needing standard channels which DISH is required to supply through 2012, and standard receivers are much cheaper.

    Let me add that satellite IS digital, but that's not the same as HD.  With the switch next year, although all broadcasts will be digital, many will still not be HD.


  2. I don't think so, I don't know.  Isn't Satellite digital already. I think that the transition is just switching from Cable to Satellite.  

    Thats what I think, but I don't really know.  Sorry, I'm not that much of a help.
