Question:

I suck at everything?

I've tried so many things... sports, singing, dancing, acting. I get crappy grades in school & everything I ever tried I suck at.

People at my school laugh at me cause I've never won a medal in my life... I've never actually been in an organized sport cause my parents can't afford it.

Why do I suck at everything no matter how much I practice?

  2. You seem to be spreading yourself too thin in an effort to impress other people. You need to concentrate on becoming better at the things you enjoy doing.

  3. That is not true, writers who try hard go places, you just have to keep on going and trying.  You will get there soon and all things take time.  I know that these kids make fun of you but you need to ignore them and dont let them get to you, I know that there words make you feel low and worthless but you ARE NOT WORTHLESS.  You need to tell yourself that you are a great person and you have many talents.  Talents aren't everything in life, there is more to life then that.

  4. Have you really tried everything? Art as well?

Well you aren't going to be good at something right away. Pick something that is fun, and that you like, and then you have to practice it! You are going to suck at first, and there will be times when it won't be fun because you are working so hard, but if you stick with something it'll be worth it.

  5. You'll have to read my answer to your other question, Courtney, but I did forget one thing.  When you first became one of my contacts, I thought you were an adult because you are so well spoken and write so well.  This is a huge compliment, and trust me, writers go very far in life.  If you can write you can speak, and speakers go far too.

I wish I was good at sports, but I'm not.  I don't have one athletic cell in my body.  I was always last at everything, and aside from being hit by the softball, which I already told you about, I got hit in the head during gym class one time and was knocked out cold.  I quit my softball team not because of being hit in the head, but because all season I only got one hit, and when I got that hit everyone was so happy for me that they acted like they'd won the lottery.  That was more humiliating than being knocked cold!

Someone made fun of me one time and said, "You act like such a girl," like I was the most disgusting person on earth.  Well, I am a girl's girl, but at least I do it well!  There is one athletic thing I am very good at, and I've been doing this since I was a kid:  Riding horses.

It's easy to learn and it's inexpensive.  Just don't ask your parents for a horse, because owning and taking care of one costs a fortune.  We have friends who let us ride, but we still pay them because the cost is just so high and we're glad to help out.  I've never owned my own horse, but I've been riding since I was nine years old, and now my husband rides with me.  He got on a horse for the first time when he was 36 years old, and now he thinks he's a cowboy.  This is very funny because when he rides, the horse does whatever she wants and ignores my husband completely.

The other thing I'm good at is archery.  I actually won an award for that (a candy bar!).  It's not physically demanding, but that's why it works for me.  It is very competitive and takes a lot of concentration and skill, and you might want to try it.  You'd probably be very good at it.  Again, it's not expensive, and you can rent the equipment.

And finally, I love baseball, and since I can't play it, I watch it and I go to games too, minor and major league.  I can discuss stats and plays and trades and hold my own with any man, and my husband's friends are a little jealous of him because of it.

Your life will work out, Courtney, and things will fall into place for you.  Keep trying new things even if you feel like a failure because that's the only way to find out what you're good at and what you love.

  6. Your profile says you have been published 6 times, maybe it's time to give that self criticizing little voice in your head a vacation. If you live in the negative you will attract the negative.

    Good Luck!

  7. Writers go quite far. Look at Tom Clancy, Stephen King, and Richard Matheson. I use to suck terribly at drawing. People would always make fun of my art. Now, I can draw better than they ever could imagine and our children at 11 and 14 are nearly as good as I am. I just took the time to practice and research a lot.

As far as medals go, merit never warranted much to me. Medals really don't prove anything. Look at the people that have them. the ones making fun of you. What good has it done them except to boost their ego's and hurt you.

Keep trying and don't give up.

  8. i think ur low confidence may be affecting ur performance...the same thing used to happen to me last year.

just cheer up, put a smile on ur face, and keep trying, and you will do alot better, trust me :D

  9. HEY! I write and writers do get places in life so whatch it!

So do musicans (which i am that also)

just put A LOT of effort into it!!!

    I AM REALLY HYPER!!!!

    GALLONS OF COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. what do u mean wend u say that

  11. I am the same way. I've tried so many different things and I'm good at nothing. I'm clumsy and too slow to play sports.

However, I found that I have good people skills and I'm compassionate. Maybe you are a good writer. I'm also kind and generous and I care about animals. So what if you've never won a medal. You are someone others can rely on. You're a good friend and a good daughter. Not everyone can be athletically gifted but you can be someone others like to be with.

Give yourself a break. You have more assets than you think.

  12. Practice hard on the things that you love doing, and you will become better at them, that's what I did and it worked!
