What is the greatest common factor and the least common factor of:

27,36

42,55

64,48

12,30

where could i learn how to do this myself at too?

  1. I see someone else already told you some wrong answers, but here is how to factor a number:

    To help my students remember, I tell them...

    You go to a FACTORy to build something. A FACTOR is a number that can be used to build another number.

    For example, if I want to build the number 12:

    I can build it with 1's

    1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 (1 X 12)

    I can build it with 2's:

    2+2+2+2+2+2 (2 X 6)

    I can build it with 3's:

    3+3+3+3 (3 X 4)

    (Now, going backwards)

    I can build it with 4's:

    4+4+4 (4 X 3)

    I can build it with 6's:

    6 + 6 (6 X 2)

    I can build it with 12's:

    12 (12 X 1)

    So, the factors of 12 are:

    1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12

    If you factored 27 you would get 1, 3, 9, 27

    For 36, you'd get                       1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 12, 18, 36

    The least common factor is 3 (never say 1) and the greatest common factor is 9.

    And did you want  the greatest common factor and the least common multiple?...GCF { 9, none [1 is not generally considered a factor in problems like these] , 16 , 6}

    and LCF { 3, none, 2, 2}
