I work part time and I am not qualified for medicaid. I have very high bloodpressure and I have no kind of medical or perscription coverage. I have been in the hospital for this problem in April and again in May. I take a number of bloodpressure medicines and I really can't afford to miss a dose.

  1. I don't know what medications you take, but Clonodine (a blood pressure med) is available at Wal-Mart pharmacy for $4.  The have alot of medications that are just $4.  Anyone can afford that.  Go to walmart.com and look up their medication list and print it out.  Go to the doctor or ER and ask that they use that list to guide them in writing your prescriptions.

  2. Well, you have to lay very low on the sodium - salt mostly.  Look at what you eat.  It will be a long haul to control blood pressure.  Stay away from fast food as there is half the daily amount of sodium or more in a hamburger.  Canned foods have a lot of sodium.  You have to eat healthy.  Don't rely on medicine too much as the cause is diet.

  3. Many drug companies have programs to give free or greatly reduced priced medications to those who truly can't afford them. Contact the manufacturers of the companies to see if you qualify. Most companies make it simple: the doctor has to write a letter stating you need the medication and you can't afford it. They then send you a card that entitles you to receive the medication for free or very cheaply at the pharmacy.

  4. What you need to start taking is Liquid calcium.  Everyone knows about the benefits to bones and teeth and hair, but it is also good for hypertension (high blood pressure), insomnia, irritability, muscle spasms and panic attacks.  I would recommend also taking magnessium with it as this will aid the absorption.  Everyone over the age of 35 should be taking this, but most people don't.  The signs are there but most don't know how to read them.  If you are thirsty you would drink water, this is easy, but most can't see the signs for lack of calcium.

  5. I know alot of people in your boat, most of them tell the doc what's going on and they find the bill is a  lot smaller than someone who has medical ins.it's not that there trying to make a killing on ins companys, fact is they have to reduce the bill a lot before your ins company will pay them.I bet you telll your doc,he'll work with ya.don't fool yourself,if you work for a living, you deserve insurance.you deserve a job you can call a carrer,I hope you don't stay where you are to long,in today's world no insurance can be a nasty thing to deal  with.I wish ya well, good luck !

  6. I can hear the distress in your message! I'm sorry you are dealing with this problem, yet with the right information and taking action instead of more medication-you could actually drop your points. Are you overweight by chance?

What you really need is a change in diet and lifestyle. Nutrition and weight loss plays a huge part in helping normalize blood pressure. Also good is meditation or yoga for clearing out stress. What kind of support would you like to get for this problem? anyahealth@yahoo.com

  7. Alternative medicine does not affect high blood pressure.  If you are obese or overweight, you will need to lose the weight.  If you eat a fatty diet, you will need to change your diet to low fat.  If you eat salty foods, you will need to change to a low sodium diet.  If you are inactive, you will need to exercise regularly.  The key to non-pharmaceutical management of blood pressure is prevention.
