I suffered ankle fracture before All Star Break, says Derek Jeter – MLB News

According to a leading sports website, New York Yankees’ Captain Derek Jeter suffered ankle injury before the 2012 All Star Break. In an interview, Jeter said that he had a stress fracture in his left foot before he suffered a severe ankle injury in Game
4 of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees.
Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brain Cashman said they never heard of the term associated with Jeter’s foot. The further explained that the club did not know what was going on between the break and bruise. Jeter, on the other hand said he was only
told about a bone bruise, which turned into a stress fracture later on.
“They told me it was a bone bruise and I am not going to ask them to look at it again, and eventually it turned into a stress fracture and broke in half,’’ Jeter said about his left ankle. “If you play, you play. I don’t think you talk about injuries because
then it’s an excuse. I was told I was able to play. Unfortunately it broke, but I would do the same thing over again if I had to.’’
Yankees dominated the American League East Division throughout the season. Riding Jeter’s back, Joe Girardi and his men claimed the AL East title in an emphatic fashion. However, Jeter was the lone warrior in the team. As soon as his performances declined,
the Yankees started to take heavy losses.
“I was not aware of it,’’ Girardi said of Jeter talking about a stress fracture.
After beating the Baltimore Orioles comfortably in the American League Division Series, the Yankees were looking to continue the good work in ALCS against the Tigers but that did not turn out to be the case. Starting pitcher CC Sabathia had a horrendous
time on the mound in his two starts and Jeter picked up a serious ankle injury in Game 4.
Without their captain the Yankees had no chance of making it to the World Series finals and that is exactly what happened. New York took a 0-4 hammering against the Tigers that ended their season in a painful way.
