A couple of months back, I used to work for a telemarketing company. I stopped working for them because I realized the company wasnt legitmate, there were illegal practices, and the services they sell were bulls**t. However I noticed that after I started working for this company I began recieving telemarketing call as well, and after I quit the call increased. For payroll purposes I gave the company my address, number and even SSN. I have suspected for a while that the company sold my information. And Im worried that if they sold my address and number, then there is a huge possibility they sold my SSN. How would I take legal action? And how would i provide evidence that these calls started after I began working for this company?

  1. Unless you can definitely prove that they did that, I would let it go and then register with DONOTCALL.gov

  2. Telemarketers use your phone # to reach you and advertise, but what is it you think they want with your SS# ?   I don't know why they would need that unless they plan to commit out and out theft.  I think you may be too paranoid.  (But on the other hand monitoring your accounts and credit info is never a bad idea.)

By the way I'm no lawyer but I'm sure you would never be able to "get" them for this unless they actually did something illegal WITH your number like apply for credit in your name.

  3. Call your state's attorney general's office to find out more information. You can also go on www.ftc.gov.

  4. first you must have enough proof to prove your claim, seek for a legal advice and start from there...

in the event that your previous employer sold your information without your knowledge you can file a case against invasion of privacy and other related cases...

you should also be careful next time in giving out personal information and make a little background check of the company's profile before entering into their business
