Hi there,

I have purchased a new computer about 1.5 months ago. I have had freezing issues, and I believe it is from overheating.

The case has two fans - the one on the CPU and the one on the power supply.

However it has been freezing in Windows XP.

The specs are: AMD 64x2 6000 , 2 hdd, 3 gig RAM, DVD ROM, GForce 8600 GS 1024 mb.

What do I do?

Do I use the guarantee or do I get a new casing?

My reasoning is that the retailer should have either advised me of this problem or should replace the case and bear the costs?

What do you think?

  1. I'd keep the system but see if there is anyway that you can get the retailer to help you get a couple of case fans and install them.  Put one on the front pulling air in and one on the back blowing it out.  They are pretty cheap and a lot less hassle than trying to return the system under warentee,

    Good Luck

  2. You say that you "believe" it's caused by overheating. If you can confirm that [there's a uility u can use called speedfan to check this] then the computer is badly designed and therefore not fit for it's intended purpose.

Assuming you haven't made any hardware modifications to the system you should be entitled to a refund, although it might be easier if you ask for credit against a better designed system.

This might sound obvious to check but is the computer on a smooth solid surface? placing a computer on a deep carpet can obstruct the air inlet which is usually located at the very bottom of the case front. Best check that's not the case before giving the shop h**l ;)
