Question:

I swapped the motor and tranny in my 1996 tahoe.

The motor in it was a 5.7l V8 and a 4L60e tranny. I put a 5.7L V8 and a 4L80e tranny which is out of a 1997 K2500 truck. I used the wiring from the K2500 for the motor. Which engine control module do I need to make it work the one for the K2500 or the tahoe?

  1. You will need the computer from the 2500, because it has the correct parameters for the 4L80E. If you kept your 60, you could have used the comp that came with the Tahoe.

If you have spark from the coil to the cap, but not leaving the cap, then you have an issue with the cap/rotor. There is a rotor in it right? The center tab may not be making good (or any) contact on the rotor. Your cap/rotor is the only thing that I could see keeping it from working from what you have described.

  2. k2500 as it is the one to control this trans.

  3. the one that matched the new motor...  and trans.

  4. neither can be used without a lot wihout a lot of modification.  The computer from the new one will have to be used, but the wiring will have to be reconfigured, and it will have to be reflashed.  It is no just a simple swap.
