I swore in at MEPS about a month or 2 ago for USMC. Is there a way to swap branches or is it too late? My boot camp ship date is Nov 17th. I heard that it is not official until you swear in at boot camp. Sources from answers preferred.

  1. Until your feet land in the yellow footprints, it's not too late.

  2. www.girights.org

That will tell you everything you need to know. You can get out of the DEP if you want. The recruiters will threaten you with all kinds of stuff but they are just full of hot air and mad at losing just another number. You can switch. Good luck and GI Rights is full of great info.

  3. I am going to MEPS tomorrow. I was told once I raise my hand and swear in, that makes it "official" and you are a recruit. They also told me that there is "the moment of truth" once you get to bootcamp. I don't think it's too late man. Check with your recruiter though and check around. Some recruiters are like used car salesmens.

  4. No it's not too late. Don't let your recruiter tell you otherwise. Simply Go to whichever Branch you want to enlist in, and tell them you want to switch, it will and can be done as long as you fill the requirements. All your medical and ASVAB work is done, so you might even ship out a lot sooner than Nov. 17th.

If your still doubting me, pick up the phone and call any recruiting station other than USMC and tell them exactly your situation, and they will tell you the exact same thing.

Also, that same exact Question is posted in here about 50 times, and it is always answered in the same way in which i answered it, by people who are actually recruiters. Solid.

Good Luck with your new Branch.
