  1. I know a guy.  He's a blue belt and next is red.  but he refuses to test because he hates the color red.  Doesn't make sense to me.

  2. this isn't really a question. tkd works great on the streets depending on the style. gen.choi hong hi founded the style of tkd and the federation so tkd is perfectly preserved in this federation - itf -. tkd was founded as a military art originally but it was watered down for sport by other organizations. itf preserves the self-defense techs so this would be the best way. tkd times sells the itf forms dvds for all the forms and i think turtlepress.com does too.

  3. You're two years younger than I am.  I'm March 87.  I wouldn't recommend TKD.  It sucks, bro.  Sorry.

I don't doubt karate guys were afraid of TKD.  Karate sucks too.

    Best fighting martial arts are

Muay Thai, BJJ, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, Sambo.

  4. Why not take it for a few more months a get black? And TKD does NOT suck. Many martial artists fear TKD. I just got back from a Karate competition (all styles were allowed, but we were the only TKD school) and the Karate guys said that they were actually afraid of TKD practitioners because of the extremely powerful kicks and they also can't defend against our rigid hand strike. I train in WTF Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan (the oldest form of TKD and is over 2000 years old).

  5. Tae Kwon Do is a life style, belts mean nothing.  When you mastered the life style, you've mastered all the belts.

  6. Congratulations! I'm happy you've discovered your goals!! but why a red belt? Most people stop at Blackbelt!

My goal is to become a BlackBelt in 5 and a half years by the time I graduate

  7. in traditional karate red belt comes AFTER black belt...way after. 8th or 9th dan.

why would you stop at red belt? the belt color alone?

and most people dont stop at black belt. true martial artists never stop!

    good luck with your endeavors

  8. TKD does not suck at all. it really depends on the teacher. my teacher is very good and teaches us excellent self-defense techniques. unfortunately, many schools teach nothing but sparring. however, often you aren't very proficient with the techniques until black belt. I know that after black belt for me was a COMPLETELY different ball game, and now we go very hard on each other and learn self-defense the only way you can; by doing it. five years is a good amount of time to get to black belt.

some people sometimes ask me if I dislike MMA. my answer? no. I really like MMA; it's very fun and I do agree that knowledge is knowledge, no matter what "style" it comes from. I just really dislike the fan boys who think they're superior to everyone else and that anything other than their style (i dislike to use the word art to describe people like that's martial arts training because of their attitudes) is useless and stupid. MMA itself I think is awesome.

my reccomendation is not to stop at red belt. it is soooo much more fun the more you go.
