  1. If you're looking for a fun craft idea, my daughter's class (long ago!) had the children press their hands into green paint (water based, of course) then press them onto white paper.  Some kept their fingers together, some were spread.  After the paint dried, they cut out their handprints and taped them all to the wall in a Christmas Tree shape.  They added circle cut-outs of red paper fpr the ornaments and a yellow star on top.  Very cute!

  2. preschoolers like to make things.

since there are a variety of simple holiday images available online, I would suggest having them make their family some Christmas cards with simple cut outs for them to color and paste onto construction paper cards. christmas trees, ornaments, stars, gingerbread men, etc. are all easy to cut out and color.

bring prebaked sugar cookies to class and help them decorate them with frosting and gel icing in the little tubes. tubs of frosting and colored sugars or candies are also fun as well.

teach them hand motions and dance moves to "Jingle bells". help make a bracelet of medium sized bells for each child so they can 'jingle' as they sing.

Dashing through the snow - running in place like a horse prancing

laughing all the way - put hands on tummy and throw head back and say 'ha ha ha ha'

bells on bobtails ring - jingle the bracelets wildly

oh what fun it is to sing - throw arms open wide

Jingle bells, jingle bells - use bell bracelets through the rest of the song to the rhythm of the music.

invite a special holiday guest to come read "the night before christmas" to them (costumed elf, Mrs. Claus, Santa, Reindeer, etc)

  3. Gloves. You can get them in all colors, some with designs. They're inexpensive, and preschoolers can never have enough. My friend has 2 little ones, and they are constantly losing their gloves.

  4. Crafts:

    1.  Cut out mitten shapes and give each child 2 to decorate.  Glue stretched out cotton balls on the end and then use a piece of yarn to connect the mittens.  Hang on your classroom Christmas tree or suspend from the ceiling or display on the classroom windows.

    2.  Give each child a piece of blue construction paper.  Cut piece of white construction paper to represent the snow on the ground.  Have the children glue them in place on the blue paper. Pre-cut shapes for snowmen, houses and roofs and have the children create their own scene.  For young children, modify this to allow the children to build their own snowman standing alone.

    3.  Get some cardboard picture frames.  Buy some old puzzles at your local Good-Will store.  Have the children glue 2 layers of the puzzle pieces to the frames.  This makes a great gift to give mom or dad.  You can also spray [paint the puzzle piece gold, silver or whatever.

    4.  Pre-cut 2 stocking shapes per child.  Put the stockings together in pairs and punch holes for the children to thread white yarn through.  Each child can "sew" his/her own stocking together and fill the stockings with lightweight candies.

  5. I am making candy cane reindeer's for the children in my child care class.
