I take half a 25 mg of atenolol right now

is it safe to take atenolol and xanax at or around the same time????

It's safe.  I take 25 mg atenolol twice daily as a preventative for cluster headaches, along with a xanax to combat recurring muscle spasms due to an injury and am having no problems with it.

I mix atenolol with varies heart meds twice a day for my cat.

If you weren't prescribed by your doctor to do so, then don't. During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for hypotension and excessive or prolonged CNS depression. There's also a possibility of additive effects (e.g., drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, confusion, orthostasis, fainting) and patients should be cautioned about driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous tasks, and to arise slowly from a sitting or lying position. Patients should also be advised to notify their doctor if they experience excessive side effects that interfere with their normal activities, or dizziness and fainting.
