I taught my cat to 'sit'. is that abnormal?

No, not at all. Good on you.

You can teach an animal to do just about anything, all you need is patience and an animal who wants and loves to learn.

I taught my hand reared grey cockatiel to talk and he is toilet trained and gives us kisses whenever asked.

He says hello, pretty boy, wanna come out, he barks when he sees or hears a dog, he calls the puss puss, he does a monkey sound, he laughs, he also comes when he is called and knows when he is a good boy and a bad boy.

Gratz! Cats are difficult to train, but it is possible to do.  I used to have one that walked on a leash through the park.  That was an awesome cat.

I did that as well, unaccident. I was trying to teach my dog "sit" but the cat noticed he was getting treats every time. So he came over and started to do it with the dog lol

He won't do it unless I have food though.

I read a website when I first got my kitten that instructed how to teach it to sit, lay down, and shake hands, like that was a completely normal thing to do with a cat. It's so cool that your cat learned. I have tried "sit" a couple of times with my cat, but he's too interested in the treat to hear anything I'm telling him.

no, some people even teach their cats to use the toilet and flush!

Definitely NOT!!! You have a very smart cat and it is really awesome that he knows how to sit. . . so don't think it's weird!
