  1. Yes they are but its our fault. The Mid East countries pooled their money into funds and now they are buying oil futures to drive up the price of what their selling. There is no shortage of oil but there needs to be more refining. Canada has more oil than the Mid East and at $100 a barrel they can produce it. There are ways to off set this however lets sell them wheat at $100 a bushel.

  2. I am not sure what you mean by "ruining" the US.  If you mean the economy recessing, then I don't think it can be blamed solely on gas prices, but gas prices can be a good indicator.  I think gas prices are one of the many factors to the recession of the economy, but not the only or largest factor.

  3. yes! but we are getting more fuel officiant cars

  4. Most people agree with that. Maybe now they will stop buying those big over powered gas guzzling engines.

  5. That might be but another important cause is that It seems like alot of people were never taught how to handel there own money.

  6. most uninformed people will agree with you, but it is the federal reserve that is ruining the US, everytime they lower the interest rate the value of the dollar goes down, prices have to go up.  when people start to realize this, maybe we will have a chance to end the insanity, and remove the fed

  7. Bush did it

  8. Yes!

  9. If you are referring to "ruining the U.S." as a slowed down economy, then you could certainly conclude that high gas prices are a factor, but not the sole contributor.

The biggest problem Americans face, economically speaking, is that 70% are living paycheck to paycheck and not saving money.

    Consider these stats:

The average car payment is $479 per month.

The average cell phone bill is $50 per month

The average cable bill is $51 per month

The average internet service bill is $32 per month

The average credit card payments per month per household is $200

The average household spends $175 per month eating out.

All of those totaled together is $987

Now, lets address the gasoline prices....

I fill up my car once per week and it usually costs around $45 when prices are hovering at the $3.00/gallon mark. My total gas bill for the month ranges from $160-$180.

All of those stats lead me to ask this question. Why is it that people can afford an average of $479 for a car payment and not think car prices are ruining the country? Or why is it that Americans spend an average of $175 eating out, yet they don't blame the restaurant industry for their financial woes?

Its easy to target oil companies because we don't like paying high gas prices, yet fuel is only one piece of the big picture.

  10. Sin is ruining the U.S. "High gas prices" is rooted in evil too.

  11. no I dont think the price is... I think the amount we consume is ...

  12. no. everybody was happy at $2 per gallon. the average american can absorb the higher price with a little budgeting.

  13. Not only the U.S. The rise of gas prices is not caused by any shortage as there is none. It's caused by speculators in the commodity markets and Exxon-Mobil loves it as they now make $900 million per week.

  14. I think gas has something to do with the economy. But we can't let it set us back, in my homeland of Scotland gas is almost $10 per gallon. In the USA we have really cheap gas.

  15. I agree

  16. of course!

  17. Higher gas prices are a very small part of what is wrong with the American economy right now.  Take a bigger look at the whole economic picture.   If all we had were high gas prices, then the economy as a whole would look pretty d**n good.  When you add in the higher food prices, the war costs, the slumping American dollar, the stock market ups and downs, the housing problems, the lending problems, credit problems, lack of jobs, lost and going manufacturing, education problems, and many, many more issues, you will find that the high gas prices are a very small piece of the pie.

  18. Yes ! in the last 60 days, 5 families in a three block span have had to give up their homes, not because they had bad mortgages or that they had lost their jobs, but because the gas prices. it is costing more and more to heat  homes, food prices are being driven up by the rising cost of the fuel to get it to market, the cost of driving back and forth to work is eating up any extra room people had in their income/budgets for even a simple prescription that costs as little as 3.00 for most folk because that 3.00 is something they need in order to buy another gallon or less of gas just to  get to work one more day so they can pay the gas bill  .. and yet the Oil tycoons are making record profits.. bet they have no problem getting medication and foods
