Question:

I think I'd like to take a cruise one time, but that's all. Why do so many people take upwards of 10 cruises?

  1. For the same reason that people go to Disney World more than once -- THEY ENJOY IT

Don't knock what you haven't tried

  2. People take many cruises because they enjoy them.  Yes, there is so much more to do.  However, there is much more to cruising than getting on and off a ship.

A cruise ship visits several ports.  So does a bus.  However, with a bus tour you cannot get up and walk around while the bus is moving.  You can on a cruise ship.  You have to unpack and pack every time the bus goes to a new city.  On a cruise ship you only unpack and pack once.  How many people get a chance to go swimming or eat at a nice restaurant while the bus is moving?  You can do that on a cruise ship.

Yes, cruise ships have their limitations.  They are limited to places that have docking facilities.  They usually only spend about eight hours in port (though some do visit a city for more than 24 consecutive hours).  But there are so many islands in the Caribbean, and you cannot drive from one to the next.  Airline travel is not much fun, is expensive, and requires packing and unpacking.  Some people like to take a land vacation and visit a city they first experienced from a cruise ship, because they enjoyed the city so much.

Originally cruise ships were floating hotels.  You visited one city, went back to your hotel, and the next day your hotel was in a new city.  Now, in some cases, the cruise ship has become a destination itself.

Cruise ships go all over the world, and some even do a round the world cruise (which typically lasts about 100 days).  So, one typical one week cruise will not provide you with everything a cruise has to offer.

With transportation and meals taken care of, cruises are very relaxing.  Days at sea are extremely relaxing.  You get up when you want, you do what you want, and you go to sleep when you want.  If you are on a bus, you don't have this freedom.

Another great thing about cruises is that multi-generational families can get together, do what each wants during the day, and meet up for dinner to share the day's events.  The family friendly lines have excellent children's programs.  This means the parents can do adult things, the kids can do kids things, and yet the whole family can still be together for part of the day.

On a Mexican Riviera cruise the kids were in the kids program for the morning, and then the kids and the adults spent the afternoons together at the pool or the water slide on sea days.  On port days the kids were with us all day.  However, the children's program was still available and the kids could have gone to the children's program while the adults did something in the port.

On the Western Caribbean cruise we only had two sea days and a much bigger ship.  Though signed up, the kids never went to the children's program because the kids and the adults were too busy doing things together.

In Alaska everyone (there were nineteen of us) would do what they wanted during the day.  Some would go on guided city tours, some would go on active tours, some would stay on the ship, some would go shopping, and some would do something else.  At the end of the day we would all get together for dinner and share stories.  Everyone had a chance to do what they wanted and still be together at the end of the day.  I would like to go back to Alaska.  There are other excursions that I would like to try.

I have been on seven cruises, and I have four more booked.  Each cruise is different.  Though I have visited some ports more than once, I have not done the same thing in each of the ports that I visited twice except once (an activity I really enjoyed).  In Jamaica I went on a river tubing excursion one year and climbed Dunn's River Falls the last time I was there.  Both were fun.  In Cozumel I swam with a dolphin and a seal one year, and kayaked and snorkeled the last time I was there.  Again, both were fun.  Soon I will get a chance to go through the Panama Canal.  Later I will join some friends and visit the Southern Caribbean.  Later still I will sail past the Statue of Liberty.  All these experiences are different.  One cruise would not cover all these places.  And each ship is different.  I have yet to sail twice on the same ship.

  3. The key is not to take the same cruise but a different one. Think of a cruise this way, you pay one price and then board a floating resort where the food and entertainment are already paid for. You then get to stop at a variety of foreign and exotic countries and you never need to unpack. I will be taking my sixth cruise in April to visit St. Maarten, St.Thomas and the Bahamas. (I've been to the Bahamas before but I have been wanting to visit the Atlantis "Big Dig") Then the following June I will be doing a transatlantic cruise to visit Italy, Spain and France. I will not have to find a hotel in each city and can eat both in town and then on board. I love cruising

  4. Because it is sooooooooo much fun..You can do as little or as much as you want to do...Sometimes it is nice to just chill out by the pool...but then if you get bored there is always something happening somewhere either on the ship or on the shore if you are docked...Shows, games, gambling, massages etc on the ship..Scuba, snorkeling, rain forests, swimming with the dolphins, or sting rays etc etc when you dock..and you have to pack and unpack just ONCE..AND dont forget being really really pampered...

  5. Because people love the service and abundance of food on a cruise.  They get to dock at  various ports without unpacking, all the food and entertainment are included, service is impeccable, and there are a lot of entertainments offered on the cruise.

  6. ok..once you go on one cruise, you will never want to stop....u obviously know nothing about cruises....if you actually tried to learn about cruuises, you will totally change ur mind....no matter how long your cruise is- whether its 2 days or 15 days, there is not enough time to do and see everything on the cruise...ask anybody who went on a cruise, they would do anything to go on another cruise....and even if you do go on10 cruises, no matter what you will never get tired of cruising...i have been on 20 cruises in my lifetime- i go on about 3 cruises a year...the cruises are my only vacations that i have ever been on....me and my entire family never get bored on any cruises....my parents have been on over 40 cruises, and still enjoy them as much as their first....i promise you if u do some research, and read some reviews, then u will want to go a many cruises in your lifetime, and never want to stop...check out these sites to get you pumped:

  7. If you just go on one cruise, go on a really long one.  The reason people like to go on more than one cruise might be to go to different places, go on different ships...  There are loads of reasons.  For example, there is a Royal Caribbean island (CoCo Cay), that only they can go to.  Also, maybe they just like being out on the water, or, maybe a couple went on a cruise one time and than they had kids and went on one again.  But, they could go on cruises for company functions, for that reason, my brother and sister-in-law have been on many cruises.  Hope I could help!

  8. Take on cruise and you will answer your own question!  And don't forget they go to more than one place!

  9. go on one and see if you don't wind up going on a second and third, etc. visiting different countries, fine dining on the ship itself, vacationing with family & friends.....

let me ask you, something....have you ever been to the shore more than once? to an amusement theme park (Six Flags, etc) more than once? if so, why?

  10. That is an easy question.. Once you have taken one cruise you will be hooked, it is the best, easiest and most fun way to travel. So many different places to go and to see.

I have been on 14  and waiting to leave on my 15 cruise, and each one is different. Try it you will love it

  11. Cruises offer the convenience of unpacking once and still you stop at lots of ports.  So you avoid the hassle of packing and unpacking and daytime travel.  Cruising is usually limited to nights and by morning a new port awaits.  The food on the good cruise lines (such as Royal Caribbean) is fabulous.  There are lots of things to do on the ship also such as shows, gambling, swimming, etc.

  12. i personally love cruises,  and ive been on 5 so far and dont plan on stopping.

it is the whole experience and since you havent  been on one yetyou wouldnt know.

But there are  so many cruises,  i do all RC cruises,  but they go to so many different places.

  13. I never wanted to cruise...ever! Than my Mom gave us a cruise for Christmas one year. I didn't even want to go, what fun sitting on a ship in the middle of the ocean??

I relutantly went on the first cruise and have been on 4 cruises total in the last 5 years.

I really enjoy cruising now. It's like an all inclusive, but better. I get to see different places. I've been to Hawaii, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Costa Rica, and Mexico.

I don't have to pack and unpack to go to different destinations, the ship moves me, I don't have to pay for the transporation, the food, the activities. I just pay the 1 fee for the cruise which is not to bad and everything but alcohol is included.

  14. It tickles people's fancies. Why do people camp, fish, bike, party, or motorboat continously?

  15. If you plan on only one cruise, then I must recommend going up the inside straight to Alaska. It was the best cruise I ever went on. Plenty to do and see.
