Question:

I think I'm having sinus problems, but I'm not sure?

To begin with, my throat started out a bit scratchy Saturday night. Nothing terrible, just noticeable. Then when I woke up Sunday morning, it was a bit worse - but still not bad. I quickly got out the Chloraseptic spray and throat lozenges and kept them going all day. I thought I was getting a cold, but had no fever, no other symptoms.

Now, at 2 AM Monday morning, I've been woken out of my sleep by nearly choking on what I'm guessing is sinus drainage. I keep having to clear my throat every minute or so. (As a result, I'm beginning to lose my voice - my throat is nearly raw now.) At least the scratchiness is gone, though.

I found some old Clarinex of mine in the medicine cabinet, and I took one, but I doubt it'll do much good, as it's three years old. I have a feeling it's lost some of its potency.

The real problem is this: I'm leaving Tuesday morning to fly out of state on a trip - I'm meeting my boyfriend's family for the first time! So this is pretty important!

In the first place, IS this a sinus issue I'm dealing with? And secondly, is there any way I can speed up the recovery? I need to STOP this wretched need to clear my throat, and I need my voice! Please help, I'm desperate!

  1. You can try gargling with warm salt water several times a day for temporary relief. For sinus problems, you can do steam inhalation or use the netti pot. However, if you develop a fever or if your symptoms worsen, you should see a doctor. Good luck!

P.S. Always check the expiry dates of any medication before you take them...yes it may lose its potency, plus it may have some bad side effects too.

  2. Runny nose and postnasal drip generaly cause sore in throat. You can try Sucrets Maximum Strength or Spec-T are safe & immediate effective.
