Ive recently been told by direct debit payment for British Gas has risen to £95 from £50 per month.

This is a huge amount that I cant justify. I live on my own in a 1 bed roomed flat above a shop. The gas heats the flat and that's all. I cook with an electric oven and hobs. The heatings been off almost all summer. I just cant get my head round it. And when i as friends and family how much they pay a month I'm quoted £45 - £65 per month. And they live in 2-3 bedroom houses with partners and children.

Is this amount right or is am i possibly paying for the whole building and not just my flat?

  1. You can also ask your supplier to check your meter for faults and to justify why you have had this increase, it does sound excessive. Also, my Grandson was getting bills for 2 meter readings when his flat had only one meter! after many calls by his Mom they eventually sent someone round and HE couldn't find the 2nd meter! sometimes they get it wrong BIG TIME!

  2. gas and electricity prices have risen for ALL OF US. Look at uSwitch.com and compare different suppliers.  Get one that offers a fixed-term price.  I'm with EON, for gas and electricity, and the price is fixed until 2010

  3. I avoid direct debit for energy supplies as the control is with the supplier. They deliberately over estimate so that they can invest vast sums of money that they are not entitled to. As suggested visit www. switch.com and consider changing. Read your own meter every time and phone in the correct reading. Pay on demand. On line is easiest. Do it as soon as the bill drops on the mat then you won't overlook it. Good luck.

  4. Change suppliers.

  5. I think we are all paying too much for gas
