Remember, son moving to San Fransisco, throwing a bash. I think I have decided to use the theme "Summer of Love" since they will be living in the Haight Ashbury district and they are both junior hippies. Problem, I want to serve party food but want to go along with the theme. I don't think brown rice, yogurt and beans will be a great hit at the party....we have no vegans nor vegitarians in the family....HELP???

Any other party suggestions welcome!!!

  1. I don't think the food is exactly the issue.  It is the presentation and room decor.  Think FLOWER POWER and MUSIC and bright colors.  Make sandwich rolls and slice up to make pinwheel snacks.  Make cookies in flower shapes and use bright icing. Get a cake decorated with bright flowers.  The bakery may make cookies to match.  Get some real flowers and put them around fruit and veggie trays.  Play a video in the background - rent some episodes of "Laugh-In" with Rowan and Martin.  (You bet you're bippy!) Be sure everyone knows the theme so they will dress appropriately.  Have party favors of fake flowers so everyone can "wear flowers in their hair" as the song goes. Maybe find a multi-colored disco ball to set the mood.

  2. get all the veggie finger food from the supermarket in the frozen section , spinach & cheese , veg spring rolls etc...there are heaps

  3. go for finger foods! they are super easy and will be perfect for a summery party! you could serve mini quiches, mini pigs in a blanket, mini quesadillas, mini tacos, mini hamburgers, mini cupcakes, etc...you can totally buy all this stuff in the frozen foods section of any grocery store. just pop those suckers in the oven and you are good to go! have fun at your party!! :-)

ALSO: other themes you might want to go with are hawaiian, hollywood/red carpet, western/cowboy, rave (haha glow sticks and electronica music!), or even a decade, like the 1970s or 1980s! you could require guests to show up in a seventies outfit (bellbottoms, platform shoes, flower child dresses and all!) or an eighties outfit (spandex, neon tights/leggings, crimped/permed hair, and acid-washed jeans!)! either of those would be fun depending on the age range of the guests. gooood luck!! :-)

  4. kebab sticks!

  5. I didn't eat brown rice, yogurt and beans in 1969 anyways:) .....  Make some brownies and throw a little oregano into them (not for flavor, but texture - to resemble "Alice B. Toklas" brownies ....  We did eat onion dip and chips alot then too:) ... Fondues were popular, but not the cheese type.  But a chocolate fondue (you can actually just melt storebought chocolate frosting, which might need to be thinned a little with milk), with fruit, ladyfingers, graham crackers, marshmellows to dip ...... Pizzas have ALWAYS been popular, so you might get a variety of toppings (or get cheese with a "topping bar") ....  Also, 6-ft. submarine sandwiches have been at parties as long as I can remember:).... ** Hobby Lobby has alot of their bright summer patio decor out now - big plastic flowers and lots of other things in neon colors, for decorations  ** music:  Iron Butterfly (In-A-Gadda-da-Vida) is a must;  the soundtrack from "Hair,";  3-Dog Night, Jefferson Airplane, CCR, Blood Sweat & Tears, etc. And, my FAVORITE song by Scott McKenzie "If you're going to San Francisco".......have fun and PEACE:)
