Could something happen to me, will I get in trouble with the law? I signed up for something using my email address and uploaded something, but it used the default owners information, not mine. I than got an email saying that they charged $0.00 to my credit card, but I don't have a credit card. Could it have used that person's card? It only showed xxxx-xxxx-xxxx or something like that. Will I get in trouble with the law? Do you think it did use that person's card? What's going to happen to me? I didn't mean to do this!

  1. Don't tell us, tell the person who's computer you used immediately and offer to pay for any charges that arise.  At this point, only they can press for any charges and she/he will not if you offer to take care of the situation first.  Then, they should be more careful about how they let someone use their computer if this did occur.  There are ways to keep your personal information safe, even if you are allowing someone else to use it.

  2. If there was no actual charge ($0.00) you didn't even commit a violation.  That said, you should still let the person know, if you know who they are, in case anything does get charged.  If they don't file a report, nothing will happen.

  3. Well if you know the person, tell them so they can check for a charge.

If there is a charge and the person reports it to their credit card company they will investigate and you could get charged with credit card fraud.
