I work on commission with a draw set up. If I do not make enough commission for the week, I am given the minimum wage. The deal is, they force us to close sometimes 4 nights a week, and I then work 4 hours without a customer(an hour a night), because of that, I then owe the company for the hours I worked because it eats away at my commission. I am basically paying back the retail company to help them clean up the store. Whenever I close a lot in a week, I almost always owe them money from mey draw. It just doesnt seem like it is a fair practice. If I am soly commission, and I owe them when I do not make money, how can they force me to work when there are no opportunity to make money? Is there anyone I can contact? I tried the better business bureau, but it seems only for customer complaints.

  1. quit

  2. I think it is legal, but definitely not fair.

Your hours should include any clean-up time. If you have to be somewhere are are doing anything for the company, then those are your hous.

You might owe them for days when you do not sell, but you still have to make at least minimum wage for all the hours worked.

    Contact your state labor board.

  3. Find a new job.

For the most part, commission-based pay sucks big time.

It is not illegal, however.  It just sucks.
