Since about the age of 7 I noticed that I wasn’t the same as the other children in my class. I would always be told off for day dreaming or as the teacher stated “in my own world”. It was always hard to communicate with the children and therefore I had no friends this led onto bullying. I am still being bullied but after talking to a teacher at my new secondary school it fizzled out for a while. Now I am older I decided to research these symptoms and Asperger’s came up on the internet. It seemed to explain a lot of things, such as rocking and focusing on one subject a lot. I also struggle in speaking and listening at school, my teacher says I have a very monotonous voice and have no confidence in front of the class. When having a conversation I hardly ever make eye contact and this really embarrasses me. I am not extremely clever but I am very interested in computers and science and I decided to take a GCSE in computers at the age of 9 and 11 – I got a C and A*. Recently a teacher approached me about the syndrome also about a year after I researched. Can anyone help?

  1. Hi,

Im sorry to hear that you're having concerns. Researching conditions on the net can be a helpful guide as to what may be wrong with you but it can also be damaging as it can make you worried over something you may not have.  Really, the only person who can diagnose you is a medical professional and that way, if you do have Aspergers you can begin to get the support you need.

The problem with looking things up on the interent is lots of conditions have vague symptoms.  For example I could just have the flu but looking online my symptoms could match HIV!  When they are too very different things.

Remember that we're all different, and being different doesnt nessasarily mean that we have a medical condition. You're obviously concerned though so try to talk to your parents about your worries and say you would like to see a doctor to explore the situation.

If you dont feel you can talk to your parents then go back to your teacher who approached you about the subject.

Good luck, hope you get things sorted :)

  2. Haha I thought I had it a few months ago when i discovered it on the internet.  It sounds like you might have it too.  But from what I understand, it differs in severity for each person.
