  1. Hi Mark,

    The best thing to do in your situation is to find a Psychiatrist to talk to about bipolar disorder.  I have the disorder, and it CAN affect your ability to work if not treated appropriately, but I have had no issues with working since being treated.  Some employers do discriminate, but with the Americans with Disabilities Act it is completely illegal, and they can get into major trouble, and you do not have to tell them if you do suffer from the illness.  Lithium is the oldest and most common treatment, but not always used.  I am currently on a newer treatment called Lamictal and it works very well for me.  There are also combinations of other drugs used, such as Depakote and an antidepressant, or a new drug called Abilify.
